San Antonio College Invitational on Friday. Flintridge Prep, buoyed by the fifth-place finish of senior Ciara Gonzalez in 20 minutes, 10 seconds over the 2.91-mile course, defeated Chadwick, 42-56, with four runners among the top 10, to win the Div. V sweepstakes title. The race turned into a two-team duel with Flintridge Prep and Chadwick, with the schools combining for seven of the top 10 places. Sage Hill was third with 108 points. Juniors Renee Chang and Lauren Von Der Ahe were eighth and ninth for Flintridge Prep, both timed in 20:38, and sophomore Amanda Peterson was 10th in 20:45. Junior Melody Aaron rounded out the Rebels’ scoring in 15th in 20:58. It was the first time Flintridge Prep – which lost to Chadwick in a Prep League dual meet last week – had a full varsity squad in nearly a month. Von Der Ahe, who finished fifth in the 2004 state championships, has been slowed by a knee injury and Aaron has been nursing an ankle sprain. Gonzalez missed the Clovis Invitational two weeks ago to take the SAT. “(Chadwick) was definitely up there and we were watching them,” said Gonzalez, a four-year varsity runner. “But it was more important that we stayed together as a group and ran well as a team. This is a good place to evaluate how we compare to them.” Flintridge Prep and Chadwick, which finished third and fifth, respectively, in last year’s state Div. V final, will meet again next Friday in the Prep League finals at Pierce College and at Mt. SAC for the Southern Section preliminaries and finals. 160Want local news?Sign up for the Localist and stay informed Something went wrong. Please try again.subscribeCongratulations!
