Project Manager of the WNT, Mr Edison Henry says while the Reform Management Unit will be working with several other stakeholders in successfully launching the programme, the sustainability of the trail depends on everyone, hence their reason for the ‘Friends of the WNT’ campaign.“The sustainability of the trail lies in the institutional arrangements required for managing, maintaining and promoting the trail, both formally and informally. To help sustain this institutional framework of this national asset, it must commensurate with a level of importance that every one of us places on it individually and as well as collectively”, says Henry.Mr Henry said that the PMU has pursued some specific activities aimed at increasing the chances of the sustainability of the trail.  The PMU will be working closely with the Land and Surveys Division, who will be the leading provider of navigation aids to the Waitukubuli National Trail.“These include the engagement of the land and surveys division to plot, to outline, to create and update trail marks for the entire trail. These also include the creation of trail profiles, creation of trail position indicators and other navigational aids to help with movement along the trail. This therefore ensures that the Land and Surveys Division possess the required institutional assets and resources they need to provide and review these aspects of the trail going forward”, outlined Henry. The South-West Community group is now a legal adopter of sections of Segments One (1) and Two (2).The Waitukubuli National Trail Project will come to a close in December 2011.The project consists of fourteen (14) segmented trails traversing the entire island, connecting some thirty-two (32) communities.A recognition and pinning ceremony is slated for October during the independence celebrations to recognize all ‘Friends of the Waitukubuli National Trail’.Interested adopters may contact the WNTP Office for registration.Dominica Vibes News LocalNews South-West Community Group is the first adopter of the ‘Friends of the Waitukubuli National Trail’ Campaign by: – August 9, 2011last_img
