Offensive Player of the Week: Esther Okoronkwo, Lamar – Jr. – Forward – Richmond, TexasOkoronkwo found the back of the net twice in the first 27 minutes of a 2-0 win over A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday, and her first goal gave her a league-leading sixth game-winner. She continued to score early in matches with a 12th-minute goal in Sunday’s title-clinching victory against Houston Baptist. The Southland Conference leader in goals scored (19), Okoronkwo picks up her second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the season after tallying three goals in two wins that secured Lamar’s (12-6, 9-1 SLC) second regular-season championship in the last three seasons. She scored both goals in a win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Friday and had the opening score in a 3-1 victory over Houston Baptist on Sunday. Winners of eight-straight, LU concludes the regular season against McNeese at 7 p.m. Friday. Anuat is the Defensive Player of the Week, and teammate Johnson is the Goalkeeper of the Week. The Wildcats (11-4-2, 7-2-1 SLC) pitched a pair of 1-0 shutouts against in-state foes Stephen F. Austin and Sam Houston State, wrapping up the team’s first undefeated home season (6-0-2). Led by the defensive duo, ACU kept its adversaries off the board for nearly 195 minutes of play and pushed the ball on the opponents’ half of the field as the Wildcats outshot their opponents 62-22. ACU hits the road for its regular-season finale against UIW at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school’s sports information director. Voting for one’s own athlete is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots. Defensive Player of the Week: Alyssia Anuat, Abilene Christian – So. – Defender – San Diego, Calif.Last year’s Southland Conference Freshman of the Year was a force to be reckoned with on defense, recording double-digit clearances as Abilene Christian posted a pair of shutouts over the weekend. Anuat was able to force the ball up and help create opportunities on offense with three shots on goal as ACU averaged 31 shots per game. Goalkeeper of the Week: Rachel Johnson, Abilene Christian – R-Sr. – Coppell, TexasJohnson became the program’s all-time leader in career shutouts (14) and moved to fourth in school history in career saves (151) after racking up 14 stops in the Wildcats’ two shutout wins.
